HS.003 — HANNAH D
Hi Hannah, to start, can you present yourself in a few words?

Hi there!!
I’m Hannah, I’m originally from Brisbane/Meanjin in Australia, and have been living in Naarm/Melbourne for four years. Aside from DJing, I run a record label called The Space Between Us (TSBU), and run parties as half of Luna Blessings (co-run with DJ Luv You) and Send/Return (with Bex).
Aside from all these things, I really love being out in nature (especially if music/dancing is involved!) — places like the beach and the bush here in Aus are very special to me.
What was the purpose and idea behind this mix?
This mix was actually quite inspired by my time at your beautiful HORS SOL Festival back in July this year which myself, Mabel and Suki were lucky enough to play at. The festival was a definite highlight of my time in Europe — playing into the sunrise in the forest was an experience I won’t forget!
I wanted to encapsulate the vibe of the set in a shorter time frame, and keep the energy pretty high. Quite a few of the tracks in this mix I played during our 5 hour b3b — the first track in the mix is called ‘Blizzard’ by Shjva (released on People & Places) and is actually the same track I started the set with :) It’s super deep and trippy and feels to me a bit like being in a misty forest :)
What are your main influences at the moment?
I’ve just come back from two and a bit months travelling in Europe and Asia, and I’d definitely say I’ve come back feeling super inspired by the parties I’ve been lucky enough to attend or play at. Above Below festival in the UK was incredible (shoutout to Dave, Anna and the whole team!!), I was blown away by the music, the people and the setting. I was so inspired afterwards that I would have spent about three days straight looking for music I think.
I also played at Goodness in Copenhagen which was also just beautiful — another shoutout to Kasper, Jenny, Tea, Martí, and the whole team (of which there are many!) Truly a special one :)

This trip really made me realize how much of a blessing it is to be able to experience music scenes outside of my home. It feels quite essential to me to remain inspired and spark new ideas. In particular it was quite refreshing hearing a lot of deeper music being played and I’m hoping to channel a bit of this now that I’m home.

How do you project into a mix?
It’s been a while since I’ve been able to successfully record mix at home (thanks to overthinking them most of the time!). But since returning home, I’ve felt like I have so much music that I’m excited about, so this one came out pretty easily. I usually like playing around with the tracks beforehand to work out nice transitions, so after a bit of messing around I sat down with two CDJ 900s, a turntable and a Xone 92 in the garage at my partner’s house in Northcote and pressed play :))

Do you want to say a few words about your upcoming projects?

I’ve got quite a few releases in the works for TSBU and I’m super excited for them! The next one is with a local producer called WTP who I am very obsessed with — those tracks should be out in the next month or two. We also have quite a lot of parties for Luna Blessings being planned for the summer months which I can’t wait for. And lastly I’m hoping to find a bit more time to make music in Ableton instead of scrolling on my phone for hours! Hopefully I can make it happen :)
