HS.005 — PUREBLAST

HORIZONTAL SITE.jpg

Hi Pureblast, to start, can you present yourself in a few words?

Hi :)

I’m sa+ga, DJ, singer and writer. I’m also running the research collective au-delà du club (beyond the club in English) on the major issues facing the electronic scene. With Cristofeu, DJ, producer running the label Discoteca, we are Pureblast, an electronic music duo with multiple influences from electronic genres. We perform live and are also DJ’s.

Your previous name was Baraka, and had to be changed following a threat of legal action. Would you like to tell us more?

We faced the reality of trademark rights when an American artist named Baraka, who had registered his trademark, forced us to stop using the name. Rather than engaging in costly and time-consuming legal battles, we decided to focus on the essentials and change our name.

Earlier this month, we officially announced our new name, Pureblast, on stage at Trans Musicales in Rennes. It was a symbolic moment for us, marking the beginning of a new chapter. While the name has changed, our energy, passion, and music remain the same.

What's the symbolism behind the new name?

A genuine fun!

What was the purpose and idea behind this first mix as Pureblast ?

We thought it was meaningful to share our first mix as Pureblast with HORS-SOL, a collective that has always supported us and continues to foster a caring and inclusive scene. Our musical intention was to bring together tracks we love playing in clubs right now.

What are your main influences at the moment in the music you produce?

We are mostly inspired by artists who have built their own universe, not only sonically but also aesthetically such as Underworld, Björk, 3L3D3P, Machine Girl, or Yves Tumor, to name a few. Our inspiration comes from a variety of electronic sounds, including progressive trance, jungle, and drum ’n’ bass, and more recently, electro-punk and industrial rock.

How do you project into a gig / DJ set?

We don’t really make compromises. We always play what we’d like to hear and dance to. As long as we’re in tune with what we’re playing, the energy is always at its best.

Do you want to say a few words about your upcoming projects?

Last September, we released our second EP, Psycho. We’re now about to release two remix EPs featuring tracks from eight producers we love. In March 2025, we’re heading back to Australia for our second tour there. We had an amazing time last year and can’t wait to return. We’re also working on new music!
